Questionnaires

I was assigned the task of creating the audience questionnaires , we then thought of suitable questions which would relate to our short film and also our audience so we came up with the following

1.What is your preferred genre
2. Do you know what a short film is
3. Do you take short film seriously
4.What do you feel is having the biggest impact on modern day society
5.As an individual what do you feel is having the biggest impact on modern day society
6.are short films created for fun
7.Short films are created to address personal concerns/issues
8.SHort films only run from 5-10 minutes
9.Do you think its a good idea for short films to be exhibited in cinema (if not then where)
10. Do you believe that short films have the capability of competing with hollywood blockbusters

below are images of our completed audience questionnaires

Locations

Below are images of various locations which will be featured in our short film.
This shot gives the audience a idea of the area in which our main character lives , the area looks very working class which means that he is not very wealthy.
This is the roof top which our story will flash back to several times through out the film it is also where the film begins and ends.

This will be a high angle shot which will make marcus seem small and weak in his day to day environment
This will be a mid shot of our main character from the waist down, the banister railings reinforce the concept of being trapped. There are also various other shots which allow the audience to visualize this concept

Graphs and Charts

From the results we gathered based on our audience research surveys i have produced graphs and charts to represent the information which was collected , this gives a clearer view as opposed to having the information presented numerically.

I first entered all the information into a spreadsheet , this gave me a clear overview of how many people had taken the survey and also allowed me to include only data which was valid, as some people did not take the questionnaire seriously

I was then able to convert the data displayed above into graphs and charts, I created a chart to show which age was most common , I also created a pie chart to display which genre was most popular

We found that the most popular age was seventeen years old, this is good because this age is our main target audience.

We found that social realism and drama were both the most popular genre as they had 39%

Then i created bar graphs which related to the awareness of short films and the purpose of their creation, whether they are created for fun or whether they are taken seriously.

We found that most people are aware of short film and also that the same amount of people take short film seriously.

We found that most people would not agree and say short films were created for fun but more to address an issue or get a point across. This is good because we hope to convey a message in our short film.

however others do believe short films  are created simply for fun which has been displayed in the pie chart.

What is a short Film

A short film traditionally runs from 5-45 minutes and can be exhibited in many different environments as opposed to a cinema.
it does not have to be shown in the format of a film, a short film can be a extended advert , a music video a film trailer or a game trailer.

A link to  an example of a extended advert which I have seen being screened before many films at the VUE cinema  has been displayed below .

Although some short films run before films in selected cinemas , it has become less common as the online age has further developed as most audiences are niche in which they have their own preferences as to what they wish to watch.

Nowadays many short films are distributed via online sharing websites such as youtube , but as said early some still run before films , for example Disney Pixar created a short animated film titled "Day and Night" this was screened before every showing of Toy Story 3 which was a box office hit , as an audience member i did not grow tired or bored of Day and Night as i had already paid to watch toy story which is an animated film  , so the short film before added to the build up of what Disney Pixar was capable of.

Before the release of the game "Red Dead Redemption"  Australian director John Hillcoat commissioned and created a short film as a means of marketing the game. However the film was a "Machinima"animation  which means all footage was shot on an in game engine (in game footage) to promote the product.

The short film was then later released and broadcast on FOX network and also popular video sharing website "Youtube".  ( a link to the short film has been displayed below)

Many recent music videos now include a narrative as opposed to only having audio entertainment the audience now has visual entertainment at the same time. however these type of short films usual portray the artist in a certain way, this can have both advantages and disadvantages , for example music artist  "Snoop Dogg" music videos usually portray his lifestyle as being a gangster , living the fast life of riches , women or clothing when in fact it is probably quite different as he is a millionaire , some of these videos therefore give the wrong messages out as they are not what actually lead to a persons success

Sometimes two versions of the same song may be released however ones visual content differs from the other , one perhaps for online promotion and the other to be broadcast on television meaning it cant be as crude, although both may not promote a good message one may have censored swearing and violence

Below i have embedded two different videos used to promote the same song , one however portrays the artist in a worse way than the other does
